A little bumpy on the way to Catalina Island this morning with a mixed swell, but everything laid down by the time we returned for whale/dolphin watching. I can't get over how blue the water is offshore. Inshore there is red tide mixed with green water, but offshore it has been a clear deep blue for days.

It's been a great week of Dolphins: Commons, Risso's, Coastal Bottlenose, and Offshore Bottlenose like this lively guy in the pic. Still playing with my camera, figuring out the settings. Also trying out my new polarized filter.

What a great day. We had a friendly cow/calf pair yesterday. The baby just hung around at the surface with us while the mom was diving. The baby was rolling on its' side splashing around, and acting... well... like a kid playing.

I spent the evening trying to get the video edited, so no post last night.

We're heading out again today, hopefully we'll see some more.

I'm getting closer and closer to getting my pic of a Black Skimmer. Beautiful day at the Bolsa Chica wetlands, these birds are my practice subjects learning to operate my new camera.

It feels good to be back on the water after a few days off, but where are the Blues? Blue Whale season officially starts tomorrow. I've seen four so far but I'll be glad when they're here in force.

Blue Whale or Blue/Fin hybrid? We saw this guy right at the end of our first trip, and relocated him again in the afternoon. I've seen thousands of whales but this thing was different. It was a Blue but...weird. Maybe it'll be there tomorrow.
