We had a great group of Blues off of Newport Beach, while our other boat had a Blue up off of Palos Verde. It's so cool to have a fast boat. Our afternoon passengers loved the adventure (and occasional refreshing spray) on the ride home. All in all a great day.

Sightings today:
4 Blue Whales
1 Minke Whale
500+ Common Dolphins

Such a cool whale/dolphin encounter today. Offshore Bottlenose dolphins were "bow-riding" off the front of a Blue Whale, but I couldn't get a pic of the whale and the dolphins at the surface at the same time. Sooo frustrating, but sooo cool to watch. I only got to do 1 trip today after being off yesterday, 2 trips tomorrow. You never know what we'll find...

Sightings today:
1 Blue Whale
8 Offshore Bottlenose
300 Common Dolphins

It is difficult just from looking at pictures to really understand how HUGE a Blue Whale is. Blue Whales can weigh up to 400,000 lbs! They eat up to 8,000 lbs of krill per day. Check out how BIG a Blue Whale is compared to the bird (Shearwater) in the picture above from today's trip. It is such a blessing to hang out with the largest things ever to live.

Sightings today:
6 Blue Whales
2 Minke Whales
700 Common Dolphins

Well it's been a few great days on the water, lots of Common Dolphins, Offshore Bottlenose Dolphins, and occasionally Risso's Dolphins.

Today we were fortunate to have Dr. Lei Lani and Shane from earthwatch.org helping us on our search for cetaceans in a light rain. A beautiful rainy day on the water.

Today's sightings:
1000+ Common Dolphins
10 Offshore Bottlenose Dolphins
and

WOW! What a day on the water! Not only did we have a great day with Common Dolphins, but we had a huge pod of Offshore Bottlenose Dolphins that had to be jumping 10'-15' in the air. So cool. To top it off we found a mother/calf pair of Humpback whales. The baby breached REPEATEDLY! SO COOL! There's no telling what we'll find tomorrow.

Sightings today:
2 Humpback Whales
100 Offshore Bottlenose Dolphins
700 Common Dolphins

See you out there,

It's been a great few days of Risso's Dolphins, Coastal Bottlenose Dolphins, Offshore Bottlenose Dolphins, and Common Dolphins. It must be something in the water, but the Commons are putting on the best high-flying show I've ever seen!
